BURAQ AIR - LIBYA - 2007 - ALBURAQ IN FLIGHT MAGAZINE IN ARABIC
Libyan Airline before hell broke loose...
Another fine and difficult to get item for airline in-flight magazines and Buraq Air collectors. Original Buraq Air in-flight magazine issued in 2007. This magazine is fully in Arabic excluding some ads. Picture of a Buraq Air's new Boeing 737-800 jet taking off, on the cover. As Arabic is written from right to left, the cover of an Arabic magazine or book is the back cover of the western ones. The ad of a Libyan diary is on the back. First of the 3 B-737 800's was delivered on October 30, 2006 in Seattle. Many photographs of this jet and its inception ceremonies inside.
Buraq Air was a privately owned Libyan Arab Airline, founded in November 2000. The company headquarters were located at Mittiga International Airport in Tripoli - Libya. It was flying to Turkey, Morocco and Syria in addition to the domestic routes in Libya with one B727-200, 2 B737-200, three Let-410Uvpe & one Dash8-300 aircraft, and was also operating other cargo aircraft. I have seen the photographs of a Buraq Air B 747 at Istanbul Airport as well. B-737-800's were also added to the fleet.
None of their aircrafts were known to be damaged when hell broke loose in Libya, but the airline is not operational yet.
Buraq is believed to be the name of the winged horse like angel that flew Prophet Mohammed to the heavens from Mecca and Jerusalem, according to the Moslem theology. Buraq is portrayed, sometimes with the head of a woman, in the Turkish and Persian miniatures starting from the 14th century. A now defunct Indenosian airline, Bouraq Airlines was also named after Buraq.
