SWISSAIR - 1960'S CONVAIR 990 CORONADO POSTCARD
One of the 37 ever built
Another fine and rare item for aviation postcards and Swissair collectors. Original Swissair postcard, from 1960's era, showing a General Dynamics - Convair 990 Coronado in flight. The registration reads something lik HB497H. One of the 37 ever built, it was sleek, smaller and faster than 707's but failed to be economical due to lower passenger capacity of 96-149 people. Powered by four GE CJ-805-23 turbofan engines, it boasted figher like take off speeds and even a Swissair Coronado set a world speed record in the late 1950's when the jet stream boosted it to supersonic speed. A former Delta Convair 990 was bought by Elvis Presley on April 18, 1975 and named Lisa Marie. It is now on display at Graceland - one of the few places that it can be seen today. September 3, 1963 was the final production date.
Printed in Switzerland by Sigg Söhne Winterhur. Approximate size: 13.8 x 8.9 cm. You can see both sides of this postcard. In very good condition.
